to the waitress at Los Arcos, Hoquiam
I come in through the arch
and you come out of the kitchen,
we're two plants setting root,
I’m looking for earth, you're
looking for water. Tendrils reach
out in Victorian dance,
probing with no touching, I'm looking
for lunch, you're looking for a tip,
we negotiate a well-worn path
through a played out garden.
Tendrils contract, roots withdraw,
I go out through the arch,
you go back into the kitchen,
I'm looking for earth,
you're looking for water.

I like how you juxtapose these two characters! And that last line was so worth repeating!
I found a sadness in this piece where two disparate characters dance for a few minutes and then are parted leaving just the tiniest of memories behind with the other. Each has got what they wanted but will they remember what more they could have had?
So poignant...hope they find what they need. Beautiful word pictures too :)
Yes, a sense of tiredness in the search..maybe not journeying after the thing you really need..your profile picture gave great light to your poem..Jae
What a tease, and creative play on "nearly"...how beautifully sad.
Earth and water aplenty here.
